The best Cantonese beginners’ book I’ve found so far (and I’ve used quite a few) is called No Sweat Cantonese. It’s easy, helpful and up to date, and the accompanying CD is great. I wouldn’t recommend the English-Cantonese dictionary as it’s idiosyncratic and full of errors. But I don’t know of any other paper dictionary that’s in print. I guess the market has been taken over by the electronic dictionaries.
